Early Life in the E tribe
Ports was born to the E tribe in the outskirts of Limsa Lominsa. Assigned female at birth, his Miqo’te name is E’tchakha Rhinn. Though these days he goes by a different name, he is proud of his Miqo’te name and still uses it, mostly among his family members and close friends.
The E tribe was smaller than many other Sun Seeker tribes in Eorzea. They mostly lived in or near the city-state of Limsa Lominsa. Most members of his tribe were fishers, and tradesmen. A few others traveled the world as shiphands for the many privateers of the city-state. E’tchakha learned how to fish and gather from his older brother E’nitsah, who aspired to be the next Nunh of the tribe.
The E tribe, though steeped in tradition, was embracing of E’tchakha’s gender. Living in a port city with a myriad of characters passing through each day can help anyone see the value in diversity. It also informed their value of freedom. Freedom to be oneself. Freedom to follow one’s heart, wherever it takes them. The winds of adventure have called upon many members of the E tribe, one of the reasons their numbers have neither grown nor declined over the years.
At the age of 18, and with his father’s blessing, E’tchakha left the tribe to become a traveler.
Travels and The Black Shroud
His travels eventually led him to the Black Shroud. Enamored by the lush landscape that grew beneath towering canopies of the Twelveswood, he wandered aimlessly, taking in the sights and sounds and marveling at the beauty of nature.
One day, he found himself cornered by a huge morbol. He had unknowingly invaded its territory, and only armed with a small knife and a few arrows, he would have stood no chance fighting the beast. However, mayhap by chance or fate, a small clan of Keeper of the Moon Miqo’te led by Myuhn Shanaa slew the morbol and saved him from certain death.
He sustained heavy injuries from the morbol’s attack. The Shanaa clan invited him to stay with them while he recovered. Mother Myuhn had a son who died protecting the children of the clan from a powerful enemy, the same type of beast that attacked Ports. She implored him to stay with the clan and learn to hunt and defend himself. It was at that time that he earned his Moon name, Myuhn’to, the second son of Myuhn.
While working as a hunter in the Black Shroud, he embraced his new name and became “Myuhn’to of the Ports”, the “Ports” being Limsa Lominsa.
In the days leading up to the Seventh Umbral Calamity, the beasts of the Tweveswood grew more and more violent. The Shanaa tribe sought refuge within the city of Gridania. Rebuilding after the calamity would be no easy task. He stayed with the Shanaa tribe for a time, attempting to help them and their neighbors regain some semblance of normalcy.
The Gold Saucer Era
Now equipped with new self-defense techniques learned hunting within the Shroud, Ports set off again on another adventure. His travels brought him to Thanalan and talk of a “Gold Saucer” where one could earn good money and have a warm place to sleep. Ports was lucky enough to be many things in his youth, but wealthy was not one of them. Upon stepping foot in the Manderville Gold Saucer, Ports was immediately drawn in by the glamor. He applied for a job and was employed immediately and joined the union shortly thereafter.
He held several jobs during his tenure at the Saucer and quickly picked up the quirks of his various positions. He worked as an attendant, GATE keeper, dancer, barkeep, and even an escort for high-profile patrons.
As the Gold Saucer was a destination for many different peoples, he simplified his name to both protect his privacy and make it easier to pronounce. He was now “Ports Mantoe”
After a nearly 5 year-long tenure at the Saucer, he said goodbye to his work friends and took a sabbatical to become an adventurer once again.
Ports Now
Ports’ adventures took him all over Eorzea and beyond. He made many friends, a few enemies, and reconnected with his family.
These days, you’ll find him working a few odd jobs at some night clubs to make some coin, traveling and helping people where he can, or, if you’re lucky, you may just find him relaxing in his new home of the Empyreum district in Ishgard.
Ports Manra!
A mixology mishap temporarily caused Ports to accidentally turn into an Au Ra! He has since changed back to his old Miqo’te body.
